LITTLE MISS CATHERINE ANN: A Day With Daddy

The Cubs lost.......

ME NOW... (updated July 20th)

I am now 4 mos and weigh almost 13lbs!! Just had my 4 month check-up today and unfortunately got MORE shots! But Dr. Filak says I'm doing great, better than expected for a preemie! I am meeting all of my milestones on time - I am smiling, cooing, blowing bubbles, grabbing and putting my hands together. When I put my hands together I twiddle my fingers together - Mommy says it looks like I'm "hatching a plan." Maybe I am.... I don't quite reach for things yet, nor do I rollover, but I am working on it. I really like to be held, hate it when mommy and daddy put me down. There are two of them, so the way I look at it, I should be held at all times :) My next check-up is at 6 mos. and Dr. Filak says that within the next 2 mos I will really start to experiment with my voice. I will become more vocal, start to reach for things, and rollover. Maybe I will try to sit up. And I will want more attention, it will be all about me!!! ME ME ME! But that's ok, because I'm lucky, my mommy and daddy love to spend time with me! They think I'm awesome. And I am. Dr. Filak says I can also start solid food soon. My head is still a little "wobbly" so I may wait a few more weeks. But I can start with rice cereal, then fruits and veggies. It's not really about the nutrition right now, just getting used to the textures and tastes. It's about learning how to eat. Nutrition from solids comes around 9 mos. So, let's get out those baby spoons and play!

DOCTOR VISITS

May 18th - 2 mos checkup
Shots! I gained 5 lbs and am now twice what I was when I was born! I've been workin' hard growing!

June 19th - Fussy when eating
Mommy thought I wasn't eating enough, but as it turns out, I have gained almost 2 lbs in the past month. I'm eating just fine! Mommy switched to a "faster flow" nipple and problems solved. No more fussing! I just wanted to eat faster!

July 8th - Sick Visit
Daycare called mommy at work, said I wasn't feeling well. I've had some nasal congestion for about a month. All the kids in my class have it too. I haven't let it get me down though, still smilin and eating just fine. Mommy took me to the doctor. She looked in my ears, nose, and throat and said I officially have the crud. Just symptomatic treatment like mommy was already doing. Humidifier, saline nose drops and suction (which I hate!!). Oh well....

July 15th - Pedi Ophtho
Vision screening at "school" led to an appointment with the pediatric ophthalmologist. I have strabismus (Congenital Exotropia). In both eyes. For the next 2-3 mos mommy and daddy will patch my eyes (alternating one eye one day, the other the next day) for one awake hour a day. Hopefully it will correct on its own, but if not, I will have to have surgery.

July 20th - 4 mos checkup
More shots! Yuk! Check out my growth chart for new stats. Another gold star! I am doing better than expected!!

My First Trip to the Museum

Mommy and I went to the Contemporary Art Museum while daddy worked on his research project. It was lots of fun! She carried me in my baby k'tan sling while I looked around at lots of interesting art. I saw a man outside selling flowers made of other people's trash. He's known to Houston as the "Flower Man." The railing to the entrance was covered in yarn as was the information desk inside, compliments of Knitta Please, a "tag crew of knitters" that "bomb inner cities with vibrant, stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles on easy nights to public monuments and utility poles on more ambitious outings." We wondered for several hours looking at 3D cutouts of condemned houses, a garage sale type exhibit, the Fundred project, and some very weird but detailed sketches.
